Anglia Ruskin University Teaches How Video Walls Should Be Done Using Nexus Video Wall Technology
Anglia Ruskin University’s Cambridge campus leads the way with an addition to its existing information network in the form of an iconic ‘wall of light’ for their newly refurbished Coslett Café.
The Client
Spanning across four key locations: Cambridge, Chelmsford, Peterborough and Fulbourn, Anglia Ruskin University is one of the UK’s leading educational institutes. Since being awarded university status in 1992 the student population has rocketed to more than 20,000 and are regarded as one of the largest universities in the country
and second in part-time higher education only to the Open University.
Overview
- A single Nexus Video Wall Player is used to drive the entire array of 12 screens.
- The NEC 4020 40” LCD screens were chosen for their world class display quality and ultra-thin 16mm bezels.
- The screens were arranged in a 12×1 strip configuration and uniquely mounted in portrait orientation to seamlessly blend in with the overall interior design space as an architectural feature.

The defining message delivered to Nexus from the outset was that this campus network was far reaching, all encompassing and relevant to everyone associated with the university. This was about informing, educating, delivery and convenience. Sign of the Times
The crown jewel of the university’s network is the unique video wall installation in the newly refurbished Coslett Café on the Cambridge campus. Situated in the heart of the International Business School the flourishing moguls of the future are never far away from the latest breaking news from around the world through a selection of live broadcasts from some of the world’s leading media networks: BBC, Bloomberg, China Business and Aljazeera. This centrepiece was created using a total of 12 LCD screens arranged in a 12×1 strip configuration and uniquely mounted in portrait orientation. To help make the vision a reality, Nexus provided the knowledge and expertise in innovative content experiences and worked alongside Anglia Ruskin’s dynamic media production team to plan and execute the delivery of the final video wall solution. Nexus recommended the world class NEC 4020 40” LCD screens as the final display panels of choice and were chosen for their high quality display output and ultra thin 16mm bezels.
The Nexus Experience
Continuously pushing boundaries and innovating content experiences, Nexus is able to drive and seamlessly control the entire 12-screen video wall using a single PC with the Nexus Video Wall. Content for the video wall is designed, managed and delivered through the network using AppSpace. This single PC is able to drive a single large logical canvas spanning across and fully utilizing all screens. Full HD content can be placed across the entire logical canvas or it can be displayed and cloned on as many of the screens in as many different configurations as possible.
The highest multiple video supported resolution has been achieved via collaborative technologies of a single platform, and this technology has been designed to support bespoke video wall configurations of greater and varied dimensions.
Key Solution Features
- The Nexus Video Wall treats the entire visual area as one large logical canvas so that any piece of content can span across any number of screens for truly flexible visual layouts with full HD capabilities.
