Client Overview
Founded in Fayetteville in 1871, the University of Arkansas is both the major land grant university and official state university of Arkansas. The university has over 18,000 students and offers nearly 200 undergraduate, doctoral, and other graduate degree programs through eight different colleges. The campus includes 130 buildings on 345 acres that overlook Arkansas’ famous Ozark Mountains.
The Department of Health Science, Kinesiology, Recreation, and Dance at the University of Arkansas approached Nexus with the need for a digital signage strategy for their building, which facilitates classroom activities and includes the main student fitness center on campus. The department administrators realized the value of implementing a digital signage network and, consequently, Nexus delivered a customized digital signage solution specifically for the Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) building that included a total of three interactive digital signs installed in various highly trafficked areas.
The department administration can more effectively communicate targeted messages, such as mission statements, university and department announcements, fitness center rules, and proper use of fitness center equipment. Through such messaging, they are able to promote their department to the large number of students who utilize the fitness center. By interacting with the monitors, students and visitors can more easily locate faculty and staff who instruct class or fitness programs in the building by utilizing the 3D interior wayfinding application. They can also locate buildings, faculty and staff elsewhere on the university grounds through the use of the 2D exterior wayfinding application of the entire campus.
By simply logging on to the Nexus Portal-the web-based content management tool-network administrators are able to update, change, distribute, and manage all of the media and content on each digital sign individually.
Future plans include incorporating more digital signs to the HPER building and to other buildings throughout the university to create a campus-wide digital signage network.
