The Panasonic Cyberdome - Powered by Nexus
Mid Valley Exhibition Center, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - Panasonic and Nexus together unveiled the Cyberdome, the latest signature multi-display solution during the Panasonic Power of Innovation Exhibition ‘09. Audiences were able to experience rich multimedia content including high resolution images and videos across an IMAX-like domed structure measuring six meters in diameter while standing on a large viewing platform.

The Cyberdome is a revolutionary new product solution utilizing six projectors to display a single large canvas inside a domed surface - all using just a single player device. By using the Nexus Media Player software, we were able to treat the six separate outputs as a single seamless canvas with live geometric corrections and edge-blending capabilities. Doing all this with software means that the whole entire solution can be assembled together using relatively low-cost projectors at the fraction of the cost of hardware-only solutions - now that’s what we call revolutionary.

What makes the Cyberdome special?
- Only a single player was used to display the entire canvas. The outputs from 6 Panasonic PT-D6000 projectors were combined using the Nexus Media Player software. Our software was also responsible for all of the edge-blending and geometric corrections (we did all the difficult mind-blowing math so that you don’t have to) so that the application was able to display correctly on a three-dimensional domed surface.
- No special post production process was required at all! The entire design of the application was created using Nexus On-Demand’s web-based application editor. Our designers were able to create layouts that contained all the playlist media elements, graphics and text widgets. We did not need to use special post production or broadcast tools - all high resolution graphics and videos were directly uploaded into the application itself. We didn’t have to worry about complicated methods to adjust the content for curvature in post production either - all that was done in real-time using the Nexus Media Player software.
- The implementation of the Cyberdome comes much cheaper than similar setups using hardware-only solutions. Because we were able to adjust everything using software, we did not require expensive projectors that would traditionally perform most of the corrections in hardware. That and our software method works much better because it is much more flexible in operation and future improvements can be released as downloadable updates which is much cheaper than replacing multiple hardware units.

For those that are interested in putting together a signature exhibit such as this, Panasonic and Nexus are offering the whole setup as a complete product solution package. Feel free to contact a Nexus representative to find out more.
Curved Projection Theater – Now Available
We recently had the chance to showcase our edge-blending technology to industry audiences at the KLIAV 2009 tradeshow at the JW Marriott in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Partnering with our regional partner Panasonic, we put together a booth to show how we were able to create some visually compelling content into an experience with presence.

Three Panasonic PT-D6000 series projectors were connected in a row to form an ultra widescreen canvas. These projectors were connected to a single player device running the Nexus Media Player software and we were able to display the full native resolution per projector.
Our Nexus Media Player software applied edge-blending and geometric corrections to account for the curved wall surface. That’s right – all the complicated stuff was done purely through software.
The application design and content was put together using Nexus On-Demand, our online content management system – this meant that our designers were able to put it all together with just a web-browser. Designers can use the integrated application design tool to include videos, images, live RSS feeds and plenty of visual effects.
As a whole, Panasonic and Nexus are offering the whole setup as a complete product solution package to organizations that are interested in putting together a memorable visual experience.
