The Challenge
Stena Line Norway AS was using a manual system which relied heavily on employees to update and upgrade content onboard the Stena Saga, the ferry going between Norway, Sweden and Denmark. The system consisted of more than 20 screens spread all over the ship playing the same information and had to be serviced by employees onboard the ship whenever they wanted to do an upgrade of content.
In their experience, many of the screens were not effective due to outdated information and content simply not being relevant or good looking.
Stena Line wanted a system that would give them the ability to control the content centrally, either onboard the ship itself or from their headquarters in Oslo. They wanted to remove the employee factor and streamline the process of campaign development, content creation and executing the campaigns and happenings onboard without having to rely solely on human interaction.
In addition to upgrading their system onboard the ferry, Stena Line also wanted to extend their ability to communicate with passengers before they came onboard. They realized that perceived time spent in the ferry terminal, waiting for the ferry to arrive or standing in queue to get onboard, could be reduced drastically by using screens to communicate offers, special deals, happenings onboard and of course giving them a preview of what is to come.
Stena Line headquarters also wanted to have a system set up in their offices to play content from the ship and ferry terminal, and also to promote their own brand and internal information to visitors. Their Marketing department and their Call Centre wanted to see what was playing on the Stena Saga and additionally the Call Centre wanted the ability to integrate their phone system into the Nexus solution.

Headquarter (HQ) - Stena Line Norway HQ in Oslo uses the Nexus Digital Signs solution to run information services, phone statistics, sales & promotion videos, and of course content from the ferry terminal and the ferry itself. Customer Testimonial
“Stena saga is only in port for an hour each day. So our challenge was to establish a stable Internet connection to the ship for the duration of its voyage, maintenance of content & system and of course the installation on the ship. We chose ConnectIT AS and Nexus because we were impressed by the level of service, their follow-up and the fact that their software solved our challenges and needs. We are very happy with the results and are looking forward to further develop our usage of Nexus and the possibilities they provide.”
